About Professional Pitching Institute

PROFESSIONAL PITCHING INSTITUTE
DEFINITIONS

During your Professional Pitching Institute Instructional Sessions, my ability to accurately communicate where your Hand and Legs need to be and "how to" move them becomes vital to your ability to consistently "pound the glove" with velocity.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I use concise terms to allow you to clearly envision the instruction I'm presenting.  In your videos, my communication style allows us to measure  whether you perform the action or not.

During your Professional Pitching Institute session, you hear these term so often that, as you progress through your instruction, you'll come to immediately and readily recognize "how" each term impacts your motion.

Directional Definitions

Backside - In back of your Body where your "backside" is located.
.Front Side - The opposite of your "backside".  The area in front of your Chest.
Front
- When setting up In the stretch, your Glove Hand side is your "front".  Also called your "Glove Hand Side".
Back
- When setting up In the stretch, your Throwing Hand side is your "back".  Also called your "Throwing Hand Side".

Positional Definitions

"Pitching Line" - Your "Pitching Line" is the imaginary line running through your Back Foot to your target.

Railroad Tracks - Your "railroad tracks" run parallel to your "pitching line".

  • Inside Railroad Track - your "Pitching Line" (see above).

  • Outside Railroad Track - a secondary imaginary line running on the "front side" of your Body and parallel to your "inside railroad track".

"V" - Your "V" begins with your Index Finger tip, runs down the fleshy part of your Hand and up to the tip of your Thumb.  When you look at the formation created by your Index Finger and your Thumb, you'll clearly see your fingers forming a "V".   During your instruction ...

  • when we refer to your "V" as down, you want to make sure the imaginary line from your Index Finger to your Thumb is horizontal to the ground.

  • when we refer to your "V" as up, you want to make sure your Index Finger and Thumb face up.

Results Definitions

"Effectively Wild" - You throw Strikes, but you "pound the Glove" with less frequency than the more elite Pitchers on your Team.  Your motion relays heavily on Eye/Hand coordination.  As much, you put the baseball over the plate more often than you know you should.
***  Professional Pitching Solutions takes away the disruptive movements within your motion to allow you to consistently "pound the Glove".

"Naturally Productive Arm Slots" -  "Naturally productive arm slots" find your Throwing Hand consistently releasing each pitch through a spot allowing you to continually "pound the glove", find you able to throw the baseball to the inside and outside corners at will and ,when charting your pitches, you find no tendencies toward the inside or the outside of the plate.
***  Through proper Hand and Leg positions/movements, we show you "how to" adjust your current motion to find your "naturally productive arm slot".

"Pounding the Glove" - Our goal is to show you "how to" pound the Glove beginning with your very first pitch.  You "pound the Glove" when you throw through the Catcher's Mitt without the mitt moving.  Pitchers who naturally "pound the Glove" put the baseball over the plate less often than other Pitchers.  Pitchers who "pound the Glove" typically becomes  Starting Pitchers.
***  PPS Pitchers know "how to" move their Hands and Legs to "pound the glove".

Motion Definitions

"Reflex Actions" - Before you read on, we recommend you to take part in a very brief exercise.  Please stand on your Back Foot and, now, do something (anything) to get your Hips and Shoulders to tilt backward, then forward and now from side-to-side.
To make these side-to-side and tilting Shoulder actions, you moved your Hand and Legs in various directions and in different combinations. In your current motion, your Hand/Leg actions constantly trigger these same instinctive, yet subconscious, Back Shoulder "reflex actions".

"Synchronized Motions" - Each Hand and Leg creates a Back Leg "reflex action" to keep your Back Shoulder over your Back Foot and your Core vertical throughout your motion. At Foot Strike, your Hips fire your Upper Body through your vertical Core to turn your current throwing action into a "Throwing Reflex"

"Disruptive Back Shoulders" - Your Hand and Leg actions may cause your Back Shoulder to prematurely swing away from your Back Foot.  Unless you "reverse swing" your Back Shoulder to exactly the same position as your last pitch, a 1/2" change in your Back Shoulder placement relates to a 1" change in your Throwing Hand release point which means you miss your last pitch target by 7".

"Weight Toward Second" - We teach our Pitchers to keep their "weight toward Second".  When you keep your "weight toward Second", your Core remains vertical to the ground and your Back Shoulder stays over your Back Foot long into your motion.
In the past, you've been asked to "keep your weight back".  As soon as you "keep your weight back", your Back Shoulder immediately moves away from your Back Foot, your tilted Core discourages an instantaneous energy surge from your Lower Body into your Upper and you struggle to hit your target 4 out of 5 outings.

"Back Leg Loads" - Storing energy in your Back Leg while keeping your Back Shoulder over your Back Foot comes a "reflex action" to your Hand/Leg movements.  In the process, your Back Knee reacts by moving over your Back Toe toward the corner base.
Your Back Knee prematurely moving forward means your Back Shoulder moves from over your Back Foot too early in your motion.
